2017 Race Season Update

2017 European race season.

Firstly, we would both like to thank everyone for the continued support throughout our first season as team Ryan & Séafra Sailing.

A lot of things have happened over the past few months. We have finished our first race season together, as a new team. We had our first race win together with many top 5 finishes at Kiel week and the European championships.

We have also faced many challenges from crashing our new boat to fixing it with sail repair tape and scoring a second place when the pressure was on! We have been under time pressure having only started sailing together in January to get consistent results, though our progression together as a team has been amazing. Each day we learn not only about sailing together, but the understanding of good communication and the importance of building a great friendship and team, which will help bring success in the future.

Our world championships were the key event of the year. We had a great two weeks of training in Porto pre - worlds and we were excited about racing and showing off our skills. Unfortunately, Séafra had a bike accident the morning of our first world championships together. After going to the hospital and receiving expert medical advice, we decided that we would have to pull out of the championship. Again, we were faced with adversity, though we didn’t back down! Ryan sailed with our coach Niko, finishing a creditable 30th after having never sailed together. The opportunity to learn was still important and we understand that it’s about the journey of the campaign and the main goal is Tokyo 2020.

We are now taking time off the boat, to focus on our fitness, physiotherapy, planning and general logistics of the campaign. The plan is to get back sailing towards the end of October, slowly increasing the intensity, before we leave to go training with other teams in south Portugal. We cant wait!!

Thanks to everyone who follows and supports us.
